The Environmental Suitability Analysis utilizes a set of environmental criteria to measure the sensitivity of potential arterial roadway changes in the Drinking Water Protection Zone (DWPZ).
The Environmental Suitability Matrix is intended to rank potential roadway projects relative to one another and to identify the environmental suitability and potential for negative impacts of such projects. Because points are awarded to projects that are more suitable based on environmental and secondary land use impacts, it is possible to prioritize projects in the Austin Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan (AMATP). Roadways in the DWPZ that are planned by 2025 as larger than the existing cross-section are included in the matrix.
A total of 72 roadway segments in the DWPZ have been analyzed in the Environmental Matrix. The matrix scores have been segregated into quartiles and mapped. These groupings allow prioritization of projects for implementation and construction, based on potential environmental impacts.
