On any given night, more than 2,300 Austinites are homeless. Many have been homeless for more than one year.
Austin and Travis County need approximately 1,900 homes or apartment units with support services to meet the most critical need. Doing nothing is not an option. So, together we are serving Austin with compassion and action through a sensible, safe, stable housing approach called Roof Over Austin.
The 100 Homes Austin campaign is working to house 100 of Austin’s most vulnerable homeless people and the City Council is committed to reducing homelessness.
On March 25, 2010, the Austin City Council passed a historic resolution directing staff to develop a strategy that would prioritize the City's affordable housing resources - including federal and local monies - for permanent supportive housing (PSH). The unanimous action was the result of several interconnected initiatives that culminated in Austin elected officials pledging to create 350 units by 2014 for residents most vulnerable to homelessness.
