These fees appear on your monthly City of Austin utility bill. Save money on your utility bill by recycling as much as possible, setting aside yard trimmings for composting collection, and choosing a smaller trash cart.
If you switch to a larger trash cart, you will be charged a $15 one-time upgrade fee. You may downsize to a smaller cart at no charge. To change your trash cart size, call 512-494-9400.
Extra Trash Fees
Extra bags of trash that do not fit in your trash cart with the lid closed must be placed next to the trash cart and tagged with an Extra Trash Sticker, which can be purchased at H-E-B, Randall's and most local grocery stores for $4 + tax. Extra bags without a sticker will be charged a per-bag fee of $8 + tax. If you find that you often set out extra bagged garbage, consider switching to a larger cart for a $15 one-time upgrade fee.
Anti-Litter Fee
All residents in Austin, including single-family homes and apartment and condo dwellers, pay a monthly $5 Anti-Litter Fee for services that keep Austin clean and enhance the livability of our neighborhoods and the downtown area. These services include curbside bulk and large brush collection for single-family homes; street sweeping; dead animal collection; the City of Austin Household Hazardous Waste Facility; and litter collection and street sweeping and flushing in the downtown area. The fee also covers the enforcement of some City codes. Annexed properties also receive these services and are charged the Anti-Litter Fee. These fees appear on your monthly City of Austin utility bill.
